How to play the Mr and Mrs quiz at a hen do

Play it early in the night, before the drinks take over, so the bride can still remember the answers.

  1. 1. Choose around 20 questions

Mix starters, questions about him, a few funny ones and a sweet one to finish. The perfect 20 below is ready to use.

  2. 2. Get the groom's answers in advance

The chief bridesmaid sends him the questions a few weeks before. Filming his answers on a phone makes the reveal far funnier on the night.

  3. 3. Ask the bride-to-be

On the hen do, the hens take turns asking her each question. She answers out loud before the groom's answer is revealed.

  4. 4. Reveal his answer and keep score

Read out or play his answer. One point for every match, and a forfeit for every miss: a sip of a drink, a sweet, or an accessory to wear for the rest of the night.

  5. 5. Announce the final score

Fifteen out of twenty or more and she clearly knows him. Under ten, the forfeits will have made it a night to remember anyway.

Mr and Mrs at the wedding

At the reception, both of you play live. Sit back to back after the wedding breakfast, just before the first dance, and let the best man or a bridesmaid host with a microphone.

Keep to questions the whole room can enjoy, and swap the funny ones for "who is most likely to" questions, which work just like the wedding shoe game.

The Mr and Mrs paddle game

Give everyone a paddle with "Mr" on one side and "Mrs" on the other. The host reads a "who is most likely to" question and the whole group votes at once.

It's a great icebreaker at the start of a hen party, since every hen plays, not just the bride. The 20 "most likely to" questions above are ready to go.

Let everyone play

Mr and Mrs quiz FAQ

What is the Mr and Mrs quiz?

The Mr and Mrs quiz is a couples game based on the classic TV show. The groom answers a set of questions about himself and the bride in advance, then the bride tries to give the same answers in front of her friends or the wedding guests. The more answers match, the better she knows him.

How do you play Mr and Mrs at a hen do?

A few weeks before the hen do, the chief bridesmaid sends the groom 20 questions and records his answers, ideally on video. On the night, the hens ask the bride the same questions and reveal his answers one by one. Add a forfeit for every wrong answer, like a sip of a drink, a sweet or a silly accessory to wear.

How many Mr and Mrs questions should you ask?

Around 20 questions is ideal: the game lasts 15 to 20 minutes and finishes before people lose interest. Prepare a few extra in case the groom skips some or a question falls flat.

Can you play Mr and Mrs at the wedding?

Yes. At the wedding, both partners usually play live: they sit back to back and answer at the same time, or one partner's answers are revealed after the other has guessed. The best moment is after the wedding breakfast, before the first dance.

What is the Mr and Mrs paddle game?

In the paddle game, the couple or the guests hold a paddle with "Mr" on one side and "Mrs" on the other. The host reads a "who is most likely to" question and everyone raises the side they think fits. The questions in the "Who is most likely to" section work perfectly for it.

Is Mr and Mrs the same as the shoe game?

They're close cousins. The shoe game uses only "who" questions answered by raising a shoe, while Mr and Mrs also uses open questions, like his favourite food or his first job. In the US, Mr and Mrs is usually called the newlywed game.

Does Mr and Mrs work for same-sex couples?

Absolutely. Call it Mr and Mr or Mrs and Mrs, and swap "he" and "his" for the right names. Every question on this page works for any couple.
